Kamala Harris calls for ceasefire in Gaza after being interrupted by pro-Palestinian protestors

GLENDALE, Ariz. — Desert Diamond Arena witnessed a significant political event on Friday as Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz hosted a rally in front of a packed crowd.

With tickets gone by Thursday, the Harris campaign reported an attendance of 15,000 people. Attendees, while not charged, had to sign up to attend the event.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz expressed gratitude towards Arizonans for their impressive turnout.

The event attracted significant media attention, with 12News Anchor and Reporter Brahm Resnik noting it was the largest Democratic crowd he had ever seen in his 25-year career.

Prior to the rally, Harris and Walz engaged with volunteers at a local campaign office, where they took selfies and interacted with supporters.

A small group of protestors, numbering about five, gathered outside the arena waving MAGA flags and protesting against Harris.

The rally featured speeches by prominent local leaders, including Gila River Indian Community Governor Stephen Roe Lewis and Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego. When former astronaut and Senator Mark Kelly took the stage, the crowd erupted in cheers and chanted “Gabby! Gabby! Gabby!” in support of him and Gabby Giffords.

Harris commenced her speech to the tune of Beyonce’s “Freedom,” declaring, “We’re going to do this!” She commended Kelly for his service as a fighter pilot, astronaut, and advocate.

Mid-speech, Harris addressed pro-Palestinian protestors, reiterating the administration’s commitment to securing a ceasefire and rescuing hostages.

Meanwhile, former president Donald Trump experienced a minor disruption as his plane was diverted to Billings, Montana, due to a mechanical issue. Originally heading to Bozeman for a rally supporting Republican Senate candidate Tim Sheehy, Trump landed safely and later posted a video expressing his well-being.

This news story is ongoing. Further updates will be provided as the rally continues.
