JWP Finger Flipper Detained for Urgent Mental Health Assessment

On February 20, 2025, two men were reported to have harassed and attacked drivers along John Wayne Parkway in Maricopa. One individual was apprehended, while the other was released without charges. The incident sparked concern among local residents.
A motorist documented a scene where one man was seen making obscene gestures toward passing vehicles near the AutoZone at Maricopa Fiesta. Images from the event display the man gesturing at a sedan and an Amazon truck. Subsequently, a second man was shown handcuffed next to a Maricopa police officer.
Chandler resident Sergio Gonzalez expressed his dismay over the incident. “It’s disappointing to see the kind of disorderly conduct that took place along [John Wayne Parkway],” he stated. “Two individuals were causing a disturbance, verbally harassing and even physically attacking drivers. This reckless behavior not only endangered those involved but also disrupted the safety and peace of our town.”
InMaricopa reached out to the Maricopa Police Department for clarification. According to MPD spokesperson Monica Williams, one individual required transport for mental health issues and intoxication, while the other party was not involved in any criminal activity and was released at the scene.
This incident raises questions about public safety and the importance of addressing mental health and behavioral issues effectively.
