Jenna Ellis, Ex-Trump Lawyer, Strikes Plea Deal in AZ Fake Electors Scandal
Conservative media figure and former Trump campaign attorney, Jenna Ellis, has agreed to cooperate with Arizona prosecutors in their investigation into the state’s GOP fake electors. These individuals tried to keep Trump in office despite his 2020 election loss.
Ellis, who faced censure in Colorado last year for false statements regarding the 2020 election, pleaded guilty in Georgia in October to a felony for her attempts to overturn the election results. This cooperation deal was signed Monday morning, according to Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes.
As part of the agreement, charges against Ellis will be dropped by the prosecution.
“This agreement represents a significant step forward in our case,” said Mayes in a statement. “I am grateful to Ms. Ellis for her cooperation. Her insights are invaluable and will greatly aid the State in proving its case in court. As I stated when the initial charges were announced, I will not allow American democracy to be undermined – it is far too important. Today’s announcement is a win for the rule of law.”
Ellis was initially charged alongside 17 other defendants with nine felonies, including fraud, forgery, and conspiracy. These charges relate to their role in Arizona’s 2020 fake elector scheme, aimed at keeping Trump in the White House.
An April 23 indictment implicates all of the fake electors in an effort to deceive the public with false claims of election fraud to prevent the lawful transfer of the presidency.
