Instagram Star Juan Gonzalez Sparks Gas Station Chaos in Phoenix

PHOENIX — In a surprising social media stunt, Juan Gonzalez, known by the handle @thatwasepic, revealed he put $10,000 in gas credit at an ARCO station located at 16th Street and Thomas Road. This post, shared on Sunday afternoon, prompted an overwhelming influx of drivers, resulting in significant gridlock, according to Phoenix police.
Gonzalez’s Instagram post instructed people to fill their cars but leave the pump on the ground for others. The generous act quickly attracted attention, leading to long lines and traffic congestion around the gas station.
In a subsequent story, Gonzalez recorded himself paying the attendant and outlined the process for accessing the gas credit. The scene he captured included extensive lines of cars and police presence trying to manage the situation.
As the traffic grew chaotic, police urged drivers to avoid the area. Gonzalez acknowledged the danger evolving from the traffic jam, stating, “It’s getting too dangerous…ambulances and stuff can’t get through.”
Despite the event’s sudden conclusion, the Phoenix police indicated they collaborated with Gonzalez and the event’s coordination to clear the road rather than formally shutting down the gathering.
This isn’t the first instance of Gonzalez’s generosity. Earlier, he similarly donated $10,000 in credit to Juanderful Tacos on Camelback Road in Phoenix, showcasing a trend of surprising acts of kindness in the Valley.
