Illegal driver who injured cop gets a taste of the taser

On the evening of September 12, an incident in Maricopa echoed a dramatic scene from the 2018 film Venom, where the protagonist, played by Tom Hardy, remains unfazed by a taser’s 50,000 volts. Here, local law enforcement faced a similar challenge when they attempted to subdue 49-year-old Robert Earl Farmer during a traffic stop.

Farmer, known for his frequent run-ins with the law, was pulled over near North Porter Road and West Homestead Drive at 6:13 p.m. After a routine license check revealed his license had been suspended for years, police requested Farmer to exit his vehicle.

According to the police report, Farmer refused to identify himself and complied only after officers deployed a taser. Remarkably, he managed to remove the taser probes from his skin, exhibiting a surprising level of resistance that drew attention in local media.

As officers attempted to apprehend him, Farmer continued to fight back, resulting in injuries to one officer. Court records indicate that this latest confrontation adds to Farmer’s lengthy criminal history, which includes 13 prior arrests in Maricopa and two in Casa Grande, primarily for violent and traffic-related offenses.

In May, Farmer was convicted of resisting arrest and making threats to an officer. Despite being arrested in July for driving without a license, he evidently persisted in his illegal behavior.

Farmer has now been booked into the Pinal County jail. Given his extensive criminal background, he faces a presumptive prison sentence of over five years.
