HRMC Champions Future Nursing Talent with Innovative Scholarship Initiative

Two residents of Lake Havasu City are now one step closer to becoming nurses, thanks to the Havasu Regional Medical Center’s scholarship program. The recipients, Tina Scott and Tina Crum, received their certificates at a ceremony held in the hospital cafeteria on Wednesday afternoon.
To qualify, Scott and Crum submitted a letter of recommendation, a resume, and an essay as part of the application process. Chief Nursing Officer Danita Daley presented the scholarships and noted that the program was established last year to support aspiring nursing students.
The scholarship offers three to five awards each year, each providing $16,000, distributed in increments of $4,000 per term. Students enrolled in registered nursing programs are eligible to apply.
Daley emphasized the dual purpose of the initiative: assisting those pursuing education and attracting qualified candidates to work at HRMC. “This is something that we are doing as a help to our community, but also helping those folks in the community,” she stated, expressing the hope that recipients will want to work at HRMC after their education.
While participants can attend any accredited school, many tend to choose local institutions, such as Arizona State University or Mohave Community College. Last September, two scholarships were awarded specifically to nursing students at MCC, underscoring HRMC’s commitment to supporting local education.
This initiative comes amid ongoing staffing challenges faced by hospitals nationwide. Arizona has ranked among the top states with significant healthcare staffing shortages, prompting HRMC to take proactive measures with the scholarship program as part of its strategy to address the issue.
