Hotspots snuffed after days-old controlled burn

Maricopa Fire and Medical Department (MFMD) responded to a fire near the intersection of Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway and Porter Road today. The incident follows a controlled burn conducted over the weekend by a local farmer on a property southeast of the highway.

Throughout the weekend, residents noticed white smoke rising from the area, prompting a fire response to ensure safety. MFMD was dispatched just before noon today to inspect the site for any lingering hazards related to the burn, as reported by Phoenix Regional Dispatch.

Two firetrucks and a battalion chief arrived on the scene and remained until approximately 2 p.m. “A check of the area was performed today to ensure there were no lingering hotspots due to some residual smoke,” shared MFMD spokesperson Monica Williams. She added that a few hotspots were identified, and crews worked to extinguish them completely.

This proactive approach underscores the department’s commitment to addressing fire-related issues promptly and ensuring community safety in the aftermath of controlled burns.
