Honeycutt-Hartman intersection to get a makeover

Construction continues to reshape the infrastructure at the intersection of Honeycutt and Hartman roads in Maricopa. Residents can expect notable changes in traffic control starting next month.

Crews have been actively working on expanding the southbound lanes of Hartman Road between Honeycutt and Bowlin roads since December. According to city spokesperson Monica Williams, this initiative is funded by local developers rather than city resources. “It’s a priority that infrastructure keeps up with the growth without passing the costs onto existing residents,” she emphasized.

Currently, the city is relocating utilities, installing a new median, and paving the northbound lane. These efforts are part of the city’s five-year Capital Improvement Plan, aimed at supporting ongoing growth.

Significant changes are also on the horizon for the Honeycutt and Hartman Road intersection, which often faces congestion during peak school hours. The westbound median on Honeycutt Road is under reconstruction to add a dedicated left turn lane.

Once completed, traffic patterns will shift. “Traffic on Honeycutt will flow freely while northbound and southbound traffic on Hartman will stop,” Williams noted. This transition intends to enhance the overall traffic flow as the city expands.

The intersection enhancements are scheduled to commence in early February, although actual start dates may vary based on the contractor’s timetable. Williams reiterated that these projects are integral to maintaining smooth traffic as Maricopa continues to grow.
