Holiday travel leaves several stuck in traffic on I-17

PHOENIX — Traffic is severely congested on I-17 due to high volumes of Labor Day travel, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT).

The heaviest delays are observed in the southbound lanes, particularly between milepost 275 near Camp Verde and milepost 240 in Black Canyon City. Additionally, drivers on westbound State Route 260, east of Payson, are experiencing significant slowdowns.

Live footage from an ADOT camera near Cordes Junction reveals a complete standstill in the southbound lanes of I-17.

ADOT officials are advising motorists heading back to the Phoenix metro area to prepare for extended travel times. They recommend carrying a travel kit that includes extra water, snacks, a fully charged cell phone and charger, as well as any necessary prescription medications.
