Hoffmeyer’s Record 26 Lifts No. 10 Pima Women to Fifth Consecutive Victory

The Pima Community College women’s basketball team continued its strong performance with a decisive 80-53 victory over Phoenix College on Wednesday. The Aztecs, who are currently ranked No. 10, improved their record to 14-3 overall and 6-1 in the ACCAC.
The team showcased their dominance with two significant scoring runs during the game. After establishing a 16-8 lead by the end of the first quarter, the Aztecs expanded their advantage to 27-19 before launching a 12-0 streak that lasted into the early minutes of the third quarter, pushing the score to 39-19. Although the Bears managed to reduce the deficit to 14 points at 43-29, the Aztecs quickly answered back with an 11-0 run, forcing Phoenix College to call a timeout while trailing 54-29 late in the third.
Sophomore Rori Hoffmeyer had an outstanding game, achieving a career-high of 26 points. Hoffmeyer shot 11 for 14 from the field and was perfect from the free-throw line, also contributing eight rebounds and three assists. Freshman Kiley Sours-Miller added 17 points, shooting 8 for 11, and narrowly missed a double-double with nine rebounds.
Freshman Kennedi Niemann also made her mark, scoring 11 points alongside four rebounds. Sophomore Mattanaya Vital demonstrated sharp shooting, scoring six points, including two three-pointers. Freshman Lucy Land rounded out the contributions with four points and five rebounds.
The Aztecs will return to the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium on Saturday for a matchup against Chandler-Gilbert Community College, with tipoff scheduled for 2 p.m.
