Hocker pulls Olympic shocker in men's 1,500, leaving Kerr and Ingebrigtsen behind


PARIS, France — American runner Cole Hocker delivered a stunning performance at the Olympic track meet on Tuesday night, securing victory in the 1,500 meters event.

Hocker’s time of 3 minutes 27.65 seconds set a new Olympic record. His race strategy saw him move from fifth place to first over the final 300 meters, smashing his personal best by more than 3 seconds.

In a tightly contested finish, Hocker edged out Josh Kerr by just .14 seconds. Jakob Ingebrigsten, who had led the race for the first 1,200 meters, finished fourth behind another American, Yared Nuguse.
