On the night of February 12, at approximately 11:30 p.m., deputies from the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office responded to an urgent situation involving a man stranded on a cliff at Bell Rock.

Understanding the perilous circumstances, the deputies immediately called for assistance from the Yavapai County Search and Rescue teams, including specialized Verde search and rescue members and back-country rope teams.

The stranded hiker had embarked on his journey earlier in the afternoon. As dusk fell, he became disoriented while attempting to navigate back to the trailhead, ultimately finding himself in a precarious position on the cliff.

Although rescue teams located him quickly, accessing the man proved challenging. Fortunately, a helicopter from the Arizona Department of Public Safety arrived on the scene and successfully hoisted the hiker to safety.

After the rescue, the hiker reportedly did not require medical assistance, although he was suffering from significant cold exposure.

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to the DPS ranger and the many volunteers from the search and rescue teams who worked diligently in the dark to ensure the hiker’s safe return.
