Hero’s Home Tragedy: Veteran’s Life Cut Short in Mobile Home Blaze

PHOENIX — A tragic fire incident at a mobile home in Phoenix claimed the life of a 67-year-old man on Friday night, as confirmed by the Phoenix Fire Department.
Fire crews responded to multiple calls regarding the blaze, which erupted around 9 p.m. on Potter Drive, located near the intersection of 35th Avenue and Deer Valley Road. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames engulfing the residence.
According to Captain Todd Keller, search and rescue teams entered the home and discovered the deceased man, who reportedly had a disability. The victim’s landlord, Ted Markle, revealed that the man was a veteran residing temporarily in the mobile home.
Neighbors attempted to intervene, hoping to rescue the victim. Markle recounted hearing an explosion moments before the fire spread, which hindered their efforts. He recalled, “He came over with a fire extinguisher. Tried to help, but it was too much by then.” The cause of the explosion remains uncertain, with Markle noting there were no gas or propane sources involved.
The Phoenix Fire Investigation Task Force, in collaboration with the Phoenix Police Department, is currently investigating the incident to determine its cause. Updates on the situation will follow as further information becomes available.
