Tortoise attempted to cross I-10 before he was rescued and returned home

Stitch the tortoise was returned back to his habitat at Rooster Cogburn’s Ostrich Ranch in Pinal County.

ELOY, Ariz. — A tortoise named Stitch was safely returned to his habitat after a recent adventure. He was found attempting to cross eastbound Interstate 10 at Picacho Peak.

On July 30, the Arizona Department of Public Safety responded to a 911 call from a motorist who spotted the tortoise near the freeway. Troopers identified Stitch by the label on his shell and contacted the nearby Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch, located about three miles away.

Ranch staff confirmed that Stitch had escaped from his habitat. He was returned uninjured, despite his dangerous detour away from home.
