A legal resident of the U.S. was recently rescued at the San Luis Port of Entry after suffering a severe allergic reaction. Her neighbor, having found her unresponsive in her yard due to multiple wasp stings, rushed her to the port.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers quickly assessed the situation. The woman exhibited signs of a life-threatening condition, including bluish skin and lack of breathing. Immediately, officers commenced cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to stabilize her.

Following this initial response, CBP Emergency Medical Technicians arrived and provided further medical care. Their quick actions proved critical before a San Luis Fire Department ambulance took the woman to a local hospital for additional treatment.

Chris Leon, Area Port Director for San Luis, emphasized the importance of this incident, stating, “This lifesaving action by our officers and EMTs demonstrates CBP’s commitment to protecting our communities.” He expressed pride in the personnel’s rapid response during the emergency.

This incident comes on the heels of other recent CBP operations in Arizona. Just a day earlier, officers at Naco, AZ, intercepted an attempt to smuggle around 159 pounds of meth hidden in a truck bed during a secondary inspection.

The following day, CBP Airborne and Maritime Operations teamed up with the Pima County Sheriff’s Office to rescue an injured hunter near Arivaca, AZ. Jose Muriente, AMO Deputy Director for the Tucson Air Branch, highlighted the success of the operation, noting the professionalism of the flight crew and the BORSTAR team involved.

Recent CBP statistics reveal significant reductions in illegal immigrant encounters in the Yuma Sector, which includes San Luis. Since fiscal 2024, encounters have dropped by 72.2%, with notable decreases in Unaccompanied Children and families, alongside a 70.2% reduction in single adults.
