Heritage Baseball Claims Fourth State Title: ‘Our Finest Performance Yet!’

Heritage Academy varsity baseball secured its fourth consecutive Canyon Athletic Association Division II championship with a decisive 6-1 victory over Chandler’s AZ Compass Prep last night.
Head coach Tanner Carpenter praised the dedication of his players. “It’s really a tribute to our kids, how they prepare and the time they put into practicing,” he stated.
Cristian Morgan showcased his prowess, going 4-for-4 at the plate. His highlight came in the third inning with an inside-the-park home run, tying the game at one run apiece. “He absolutely smoked the ball four times,” Carpenter noted. “From the moment he left the batter’s box, he was on a dead sprint.”
Morgan also contributed singles in the first, fifth, and sixth innings, driving in multiple runs, including a crucial two-run single during a five-run rally in the fifth.
On the mound, Micah Figueroa continued his outstanding season, allowing just one run on five hits over seven innings while striking out five batters. Carpenter remarked, “Micah has been phenomenal all season long. He just continues to pound the zone.”
Figueroa faced 26 batters, throwing 87 pitches—58 of which were strikes. Carpenter highlighted his team’s defensive performance: “Our defense last night probably played the best game we’ve played all season.”
Matthew Martin added to the offense with a 2-for-4 performance, contributing to a total of 10 hits for Heritage. The Heroes’ defense effectively turned two double plays, thwarting any potential comeback from AZ Compass Prep.
Lorenzo Ruvalcaba, pitching for Compass Prep, suffered the loss, yielding five runs over four innings while striking out eight.
Carpenter, who also teaches algebra at Heritage, attributed the team’s success to hard work and mental preparation. “You’re always going to be in a spot where you have to think on the fly. Our kids have gotten to a point where they do that,” he explained.
As the team prepares to graduate three seniors, Carpenter remains optimistic about the future. “I would love to say yes” to a fifth title run, he stated. “Our kids are fantastic. And when they get on the baseball field, it’s that much more fun.”
