Long stretch of heat hits the desert, extreme temperatures this weekend

PHOENIX — Residents of the Valley should prepare for a significant heatwave this weekend, with temperatures soaring well above normal.

This week, high pressure has dominated the region, pushing temperatures to 109 degrees through Friday. Typically, this time of year hovers around 104 degrees. As the weekend approaches, expectations rise with possible highs of 113 degrees on Sunday, just shy of the record of 115 degrees set in previous years.

In response to these conditions, an Extreme Heat Watch is in effect for the lower deserts through Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Health officials urge residents to limit outdoor activities during the peak hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Hydration is crucial to avoid heat-related illnesses.

Looking ahead, the forecast does not indicate any rain over the next week, maintaining the dry spell for the lower deserts.

Seven-Day Forecast:

SUNDAY: High of 113, low of 84. Sunny and very hot, record of 115.
