Havasu Vipers 12u shines at Cooperstown Dreams Park Tournament

The Lake Havasu Vipers 12u Black baseball team made their hometown proud by securing fifth place in the prestigious Cooperstown Dreams Park Tournament. The event, which began on July 25, attracted 104 teams from across the United States for a competitive six-day stretch.

The Vipers showcased their exceptional skill and determination, earning them a place among the tournament’s top five teams. Their journey in the tournament included a strong 4-1 performance in pool play, outscoring opponents 66-34. This achievement placed them 26th out of 104 teams going into the playoffs.

In the first round of playoffs, the Vipers triumphed over 404 Scout from Georgia. Players like Luke Pakes, Daniel Phelps, and Joe Hawpe contributed significantly, with Aiden Venditto securing the win as pitcher and David Meraz closing the game. The Vipers amassed 17 hits during this match.

The team’s momentum continued in the second playoff game, where they defeated the Guacamole Gangsters from Texas with a 12-9 score. A crucial three-run homer by David Meraz in the fourth inning was pivotal. Another homer by Joe Hawpe in the seventh inning sealed their victory.

Outstanding pitching performances came from Phelps and Kase Karr, combining for seven strikeouts. Karr earned the win, allowing only four hits and three runs over 3.2 innings.

The Vipers crushed the Millbrae Mad Dogs from California with a flawless 13-0 game, advancing them to the Elite 8. Unfortunately, their winning streak ended against the San Diego Hawks, resulting in an 8-12 loss and finishing in fifth place overall.

“It was quite a run. These boys have been preparing all year for this tournament and they competed with some of the best teams in the country,” coach Justin Janacek stated. The team’s final record stood at 9-2 with an impressive 32 home runs across nine games.

None of this success would have been possible without the unwavering support of Lake Havasu City’s community. Local businesses, families, and individuals rallied to provide essential financial backing and encouragement for the team’s journey to Cooperstown.

“We couldn’t have done it without the incredible support from our community,” Janacek said. The community’s support significantly contributed to the team’s remarkable performance and the creation of lasting memories.

The Vipers’ journey in Cooperstown not only highlighted their athletic prowess but also showcased the strength and unity of their community. As they return home, they bring with them valuable lessons and strong friendships. The future looks promising for these young athletes.

The team concluded their travel year with a 42-18-2 record. For more details on the Lake Havasu Vipers and their journey, or to support future endeavors, visit Havasu Vipers Baseball on Facebook.
