Plea deal: No prison time for Havasu teacher accused of sex with teen runaway

A former Lake Havasu City school teacher faces potential sentencing after pleading guilty to sexual conduct with a minor. Robyn Rogers, 44, entered her plea on August 22 in Kingman, agreeing to terms that could prevent prison time.

If approved by Mohave County Superior Court Judge Lee Jantzen, two additional charges—another count of sexual conduct with a minor and custodial interference—will be dismissed. Judge Jantzen intends to review a pre-sentence report before making a decision during the upcoming Sept. 20 hearing.

Rogers, present in court alongside her attorney Bob Heieck, is currently out on bond. She was instructed to check in with the probation department as part of the proceedings.

Deputy Mohave County Attorney Marcie Mininberg detailed the case, stating that Rogers exploited her position to establish an inappropriate relationship with the teen, who was a freshman at the time. Mininberg further explained that Rogers became aware of the boy’s troubled home situation when he ran away earlier this year.

Law enforcement noted instances where Rogers allegedly denied knowledge of the teen’s whereabouts. Police encountered the boy leaving Rogers’ residence on July 18 during a follow-up investigation.

If Judge Jantzen accepts the plea deal, he is mandated to place Rogers on supervised probation but retains the authority to impose a jail sentence of up to one year, along with sex offender registration requirements.
