Havasu Regional Medical Center marks successful 100th minimally invasive heart procedure

Havasu Regional Medical Center (HRMC) recently marked a significant milestone with its 100th successful minimally invasive heart procedure. This achievement underscores the facility’s dedication to providing advanced cardiovascular care in the local community.

The procedure, known as transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), is designed to replace narrowed aortic valves in patients. Lou Jones, the Director of Cardiovascular Services, emphasized the procedure’s high success rate, noting an impressive average of 98% based on improvements in symptoms and successful valve implantation.

“Completing the 100th procedure is significant as it demonstrates the effectiveness of TAVR and highlights our hospital’s expertise,” said Jones. She noted that the accomplishment is a testament to the collaborative effort of multiple interventional cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons involved in the procedures.

The surgical team includes Dr. Christopher Kwon, a cardiothoracic surgeon, and Dr. Fadi Atassi, an interventional cardiologist, who work alongside heart team members from the cardiac catheterization lab and the cardiovascular operating room.

Recognizing such achievements is crucial, according to Jones. It not only showcases the advancements in cardiac care but also serves to boost staff morale and foster community trust in HRMC’s capabilities. Patients who previously had to travel to distant cities for similar procedures can now receive care locally, highlighting the hospital’s evolving healthcare landscape.

This recent success reflects the dedication of HRMC’s medical team and their innovative approach to cardiac care. “Celebrating milestones like the 100th TAVR procedure reflects the positive impact on patients’ lives,” Jones concluded, emphasizing the importance of these advancements in improving overall patient outcomes.
