Havasu Police Join Forces with Special Olympics Arizona and Smith’s for Exciting Fundraising Initiative
The Lake Havasu City Police Department is set to enhance community engagement through its participation in Tip-A-Cop, an annual fundraiser supporting Special Olympics Arizona. This event, taking place on Friday, approaches its 10th anniversary since the department’s involvement began in 2015, as stated by Sgt. Kyle Ridgway.
From 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Smith’s, officers will assist shoppers by bagging groceries and helping with vehicle loading. “These events have been held at various locations, including grocery stores and restaurants throughout the city,” Ridgway noted.
In addition to grocery assistance, officers and community athletes will also help pump gas. Ridgway mentioned the anticipated attendance of several Special Olympics athletes, further fostering community ties.
Funds raised during the event will directly benefit local athletes, providing necessary resources for participation in state competitions. Donations will also assist in acquiring uniforms and essential sports equipment.
Historically, over 10 officers have volunteered for each fundraiser. Ridgway emphasized the department’s commitment to active community involvement, saying, “We strive for as many officers as possible to support the event.”
He encourages residents to contribute to Friday’s fundraiser, highlighting how such initiatives directly impact local athletes. “This event allows our officers to give back while connecting with athletes and engaging with community members,” Ridgway added.
Smith’s is located at 80 Acoma Blvd. N. For further details, residents can call 928-855-4111.
