Havasu periodontist hosts continuing education program for dental professionals

Accessing continuing education can be a challenge for dental professionals living in rural areas, who often face extensive travel for license renewals. To alleviate this issue, Dr. Rebecca Lavene, a board-certified periodontist, is offering local opportunities via her position with Dental Specialists of NW Arizona.

On Thursday evening, Lavene will host a session focusing on laser-assisted dental procedures, aimed at enriching the knowledge and skills of local dentists and hygienists. “It is very nice and convenient for all of the dentists and hygienists to not have to travel to get their CE requirements in,” she remarked.

The event will cover innovative techniques such as Fotona’s TwinLight Periodontal and TwinLight Peri-Implantitis treatments. These methods are designed to enhance patient comfort by minimizing thermal damage through photobiomodulation. “There are non-surgical and surgical treatments that can be performed with faster healing, less swelling, less pain, and no chance of infection with the laser,” Lavene explained.

As of Tuesday, over 30 attendees were registered, prompting a change in venue to Shugrue’s Restaurant’s larger Bridgeview Room to accommodate the growing interest. Upon completion of the meeting, participants will earn two continuing education units, essential for their license renewals.

The session is expected to attract dental professionals from Lake Havasu City, Kingman, and Bullhead City. “I have a goal to try to host one myself once a year,” Lavene stated, indicating her commitment to ongoing education in the dental field.

Dubbed an evening of professional development, the presentation will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Bridgeview Room, located downstairs beneath Shugrue’s Restaurant at 1425 McCulloch Blvd. N.
