Havasu Nonprofit Hav-A-Sis Calls for Community Support to Aid At-Risk Veterans

As temperatures drop in Mohave County, vulnerable populations are increasingly in need of support. Hav-A-Sis, a nonprofit organization in Lake Havasu City, has ramped up its community outreach efforts. This organization collaborates with local entities such as the Parks and Recreation Department and H.A.V.E.N. Family Resource Center to provide essential programs and services for families and youth.
Last winter, Hav-A-Sis expanded its focus to include at-risk veterans, recognizing another demographic in need. The partnership they established with Catholic Charities aims to collect and distribute essential items like tents, hand warmers, and sleeping bags to homeless veterans across the county.
Patty Jacques, a case manager with Catholic Charities PATH, recently emphasized the urgent demand for food assistance. Connie Alexander, president and director of Hav-A-Sis, echoed this concern. “It came to our attention that food was at a critical level,” she stated, highlighting the community’s history of responding to veterans’ needs.
To address this issue, Alexander is actively seeking community donations. “We just don’t want people to forget about our true heroes – our veterans,” she said. With the holiday season approaching, she hopes local residents will rally for this cause.
Hav-A-Sis is requesting nonperishable food items, including canned fruits and vegetables, tuna, soup, trail mix, and protein bars. Donations can be made Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Perfection 2 Detail, located at 801 Beachcomber Blvd, on the Island.
