Havasu Fall Expo: Spanish roof tile artist Joni Webster reprises appearance at annual event

Renowned artist Joni Webster, affectionately dubbed the “Tile Lady,” takes pride in a creative legacy defined by her unique designs on Spanish roof tiles. These vibrant creations often feature animals, flowers, and portraits, showcasing her evolution as an artist that began in high school.

Webster’s work is a celebration of Southwestern themes, reflecting the beauty of desert landscapes and local architecture. “It’s just fun,” she remarked, emphasizing her passion for art and its uplifting nature.

Her artistic journey began at the Kansas City Art Institute, followed by a notable stint with Hallmark Cards in 1956. Influential workshops led by celebrated artists like Caroline Linscott and Betty Carr further refined her skills over the years.

Now dividing her time between Lake Havasu City and Prescott, Webster has been a valued member of the Havasu Art Guild since around 1990. As one of its oldest members, she has witnessed the growth of the local art community.

Her artistic range encompasses acrylics, pastels, and watercolors. Attendees at the upcoming Fall Expo will have the opportunity to admire many of her handcrafted tiles.

“It’s always good to support the community,” she said about the expo’s purpose. It serves as a gathering point for local artists and a platform for holiday gift ideas.

“I’m just blessed to have any talent at all,” she added, highlighting her connection with the community through her art. “I think most people know me by the tiles.”

The Havasu Art Guild Fall Expo will take place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mount Olive Lutheran Church Friendship Cafe, located at 2170 Havasupai Blvd. For additional details, visit havasuartguild.com.
