Gunman Opens Fire on Rancho Mirage Woman in Shocking Riggs Road Incident
A Maricopa woman reported a distressing incident after her vehicle was shot at while driving through the Gila River Indian Community. Sydney Davis described how bullets struck her car, with one projectile found lodged in a child’s car seat. “If my daughter was in the car she would have been shot!” she stressed, highlighting the narrow margins of luck that prevented a tragedy.
Davis was returning home from Avondale when a vehicle with high beams approached from behind. Shortly after, she heard gunfire, prompting the other vehicle to flee the scene. The police informed her that the Gila River Reservation has one of the highest crime rates in Arizona, a troubling statistic she now understands all too well.
To raise awareness, Davis shared photos of the damage on social media, aiming to caution others about the dangers of traveling through the area. This route is significant as it serves as the only direct passage between Maricopa and the greater Phoenix metropolitan area. Although she filed a report with the Gila River Police Department, her attempts to gather further information have been unsuccessful.
Remarkably, Davis had previously traversed this route without incident, indicating a concerning shift in safety. She described the assailant’s vehicle as a small white SUV but could not provide more detail. As she reflects on this unnerving encounter, her priority remains clear: ensuring the safety of her family and warning others.
