Gunman still at large after man shot in Tortosa

A Maricopa man was shot on Sunday night, prompting local police to seek assistance from the community in identifying the shooter. The Maricopa Police Department responded to multiple reports of gunfire near the intersection of Nina and Vemto Streets in the Tortosa neighborhood at approximately 11:25 p.m., according to department spokesperson Monica Williams.

As officers approached the area, a resident reported that her husband had been targeted by an unidentified vehicle passing by their home. Upon arrival, police discovered evidence of the shooting and confirmed that the victim had suffered non-life-threatening injuries. He was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment.

“Based on witness interviews, a smaller, light-colored, single-cab pickup truck was seen leaving the scene,” Williams stated, emphasizing that the investigation remains ongoing.

Authorities urge anyone with information about the incident to contact the Maricopa Police Department at 520-568-3673.

This incident marks the third significant emergency event in the same area within 2023. Earlier this year, a teenager was arrested in relation to a riot on Padilla Street and Toledo Avenue, and another was taken into custody following a shooting near Nina and Toledo.
