Goodyear’s Elite Task Force on Hold Amidst Payout Talks with City Officials
Members of the unit are still employed by the police department during negotiations, officials say.
GOODYEAR, Ariz. — The Goodyear Police Department is operating without its Special Assignment Unit or SWAT team while members of the team negotiate with the city.
Officials with the City of Goodyear confirmed Friday that the unit is not active while they negotiate compensation.
The officers who serve on the unit are still employed by the department and continuing with their regular duties, city officials said.
Officials believe the unit being inactive does not impact the overall safety of the city because of agreements with neighboring agencies to assist.
