'Sleepless in Havasu' fundraiser celebrates 16 years

Lake Havasu City welcomed back its beloved “Sleepless in Havasu” event on Thursday evening, a fundraising initiative by Michael Alan Furniture & Design aimed at supporting local cancer patients. For the 16th year, the gathering attracted cancer survivors and nonprofit organizers committed to advancing cancer care in the community.

This year, the focus was on raising funds for Cancer Care Resource, which aims to provide low-cost mammograms year-round for residents needing breast cancer screenings. Participants engaged in a unique challenge to stay awake all night, surrounded by beds styled in an imaginative science-fiction theme.

Attendees enjoyed refreshments and food while participating in a variety of activities, including a movie outing and games, to make the night enjoyable. The event also featured a notable appearance by Lake Havasu City Mayor Cal Sheehy, who proclaimed September 27 as “Sleepless in Havasu Day,” highlighting the significance of this community effort.
