Freeman leads Arizona State dismantling of Colorado in 81-61 win


TEMPE, Ariz. — Arizona State University’s basketball team showcased a formidable performance against Colorado on Saturday, clinching a decisive 81-61 victory. BJ Freeman led the charge, scoring 19 points, while teammate Jayden Quaintance contributed with a double-double, tallying 11 points and securing 10 rebounds.

Basheer Jihad also made a notable impact, scoring 17 points. Reserve player Amier Ali shone at the free-throw line, going a perfect 7-for-7 to add 10 points to the scoreboard. This win marked Arizona State’s inaugural victory in Big 12 Conference play, with the team shooting an impressive 51.9% from the field and 46.4% from three-point range.

Colorado struggled, with reserve Trevor Baskin leading their effort, scoring 23 points, which surpassed the combined total of the Buffaloes’ starters. Alston Mason initiated a significant turning point with a three-pointer that gave the Sun Devils an early lead at 8-6, setting off a remarkable 14-2 run to extend their advantage to 19-8.

Though Harrison Carrington managed to halt Arizona State’s momentum briefly with a three-pointer, the Sun Devils quickly regrouped and unleashed a 13-0 scoring barrage, pushing the lead to 32-11 before halftime. At the break, Arizona State maintained a solid lead of 40-27, benefiting from a strong shooting performance.

This victory enhances Arizona State’s record to 10-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play. The team is set to face seventh-ranked Kansas on Wednesday, looking to build on this momentum. Meanwhile, Colorado will continue its road trip, heading to Central Florida next.
