Snip neighborhood stray cats for free at PACC

Pima Animal Care Center (PACC) is offering a vital opportunity for community cats and kittens to receive free spaying and neutering during its semi-annual Snip ‘n Tip event from February 21-23. Residents must schedule appointments in advance to participate.

Snip ‘n Tip is integral to PACC’s Community Cats program, aiming to address the unowned outdoor cat population in Pima County. This initiative focuses on enhancing the health of stray cats while curbing future litters from being born in the wild.

Local residents are encouraged to inspect neighborhood cats for ear tips—a sign of sterilization. If a cat lacks this marking, individuals should secure the animal in a crate or humane trap and arrange an appointment. PACC offers traps and carriers for loan via email for added convenience.

During the previous Snip ‘n Tip event held in October, PACC successfully spayed or neutered 596 cats, showcasing the program’s commitment to community welfare.

In addition to sterilization, participating cats will receive various medical services, including:

  • A brief examination by a licensed veterinarian
  • FVRCP vaccinations against common feline diseases
  • Rabies vaccinations
  • Treatment for parasites as necessary
  • Minor medical care as required
  • Microchip implantation for identification
  • An ear tip performed humanely under anesthesia

Female cats will additionally receive a green tattoo next to the spay site, marking the procedure.

Owners bringing cats to the event must return them to their original habitats afterward. PACC will inform caretakers when their cats are ready for pickup.

Families wishing to bring kittens must ensure they weigh at least 1.5 pounds and have a responsible caretaker available for post-surgery monitoring.

PACC is located at 4000 N. Silverbell Rd. The event is sponsored by organizations such as Friends of Pima Animal Care Center, Petco Love, Bonnie Kay, and Colorado Animal Rescue Express.
