Florida Man Charged with Federal Attempted Murder and Terrorism in Shocking Trump Assassination Plot

Ryan Routh, already in custody on federal charges related to an alleged attempt to assassinate Donald Trump, will face new state charges of attempted murder and terrorism, announced Florida’s Attorney General James Uthmeier on Thursday.
Uthmeier emphasized the significance of this case, stating, “Attempting to take the life of a former president and a leading presidential candidate isn’t just an attack on one man; it is a political assault on our Republican form of government and our shared American values.”
Prosecutors allege that Routh plotted the attack while Trump was golfing at his West Palm Beach course last September. Secret Service agents intervened when Routh aimed a rifle, leading to a confrontation that resulted in Routh fleeing the scene without firing any shots.
Routh’s attorney, Kristy Militello, has yet to comment on the recent charges. However, the legal ramifications for Routh are severe. He is currently facing multiple federal charges including attempted assassination, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a violent crime, and assaulting a federal officer.
The upcoming court date for Routh will address these federal charges, after a significant delay to allow his legal team to analyze extensive evidence, including body camera footage and data from his numerous electronic devices.
Governor Ron DeSantis also stated that Florida would conduct its own investigation, potentially leading to additional state charges. If convicted on the attempted assassination charge alone, Routh could face a life sentence.
