Flight Delays Plague Travelers as Phoenix Sky Harbor Faces Ongoing Disruptions

Flight delays continue, Phoenix Sky Harbor reports


PHOENIX — Travelers at Phoenix Sky Harbor faced significant delays over the weekend, exacerbating holiday travel plans for many. As of 1 p.m. on December 23, the airport reported 46 delayed flights and two cancellations between December 22 at noon and December 24 at noon.

At the height of the disruptions, nearly 80 flights were delayed. The majority of these issues stemmed from Southwest Airlines, which has faced similar challenges in previous holiday seasons. In fact, between December 21, 2022, and January 2, 2023, Southwest canceled or delayed more than 16,900 flights, according to the Department of Transportation.

Other airlines affected by delays and cancellations included American Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, JetBlue Airways, United Airlines, Air Canada, Breeze, and British Airways.
