First Measles Outbreak of 2025 Hits Arizona: Cases Confirmed!

NAVAJO COUNTY, Ariz. — Officials have confirmed four cases of measles in Navajo County, marking the first identified instances in Arizona for 2025. All affected individuals were unvaccinated and had recently traveled internationally.
The Navajo County Public Health Services District, in conjunction with the Arizona Department of Health Services, reported that all cases stemmed from a single exposure source. Public health authorities are actively investigating potential locations of exposure.
Individuals who may have been exposed between May 17 and 18, 2025, are advised to monitor for symptoms for up to 21 days. Symptoms include high fever, cough, runny nose, red or watery eyes, and a rash that typically starts on the head and spreads downwards.
“Staff at NCPHSD are working closely with ADHS to monitor these cases and any additional that may arise,” stated Janelle Linn, Director of Navajo County Public Health Services District. She urged anyone exhibiting symptoms or believing they were exposed to contact their healthcare provider for evaluation.
Officials emphasize the importance of vaccination and public vigilance, particularly among unvaccinated individuals. The community is reminded to remain informed about the risks associated with measles during this outbreak.
