Fire Erupts at Phoenix Women and Children’s Shelter, Sparks Urgent Response

PHOENIX — Firefighters promptly responded to an incident at the UMOM shelter for women and children on Friday evening. The call came in around 5:30 p.m. near 32nd Avenue and Van Buren Street, according to Captain Todd Keller of the Phoenix Fire Department.
The fire originated in the laundry room of the facility, activating the building’s sprinkler system. Firefighters acted quickly to enter the establishment and confirmed that the flames had not spread beyond the laundry area.
No injuries were reported, and Captain Keller reassured that all residents would remain safe and housed following the incident. The swift response of the fire crews ensured that the situation was contained efficiently.
