Fatal Shooting Update: Alcohol’s Role Emerges in Latest Findings

A man from Lake Havasu City is facing serious legal repercussions following an accidental shooting that took place Sunday night. Authorities have charged 52-year-old Justin Wilcox with second-degree murder and manslaughter, suggesting that alcohol may have played a significant role in the tragedy.
The incident unfolded around 10:55 p.m. on Barranca Drive, prompting police to respond to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered 50-year-old Phillip Wilcox, the victim and brother of the accused, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Emergency medical services rushed Phillip to Havasu Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. As the investigation continued, officers revealed that Justin Wilcox mistakenly identified his brother as an intruder while Phillip was trying to enter their home.
City officials stated on Thursday that no evidence suggested any prior altercation between the siblings. However, they confirmed that intoxication likely contributed to the tragic misunderstanding.
Following his initial court appearance, Justin Wilcox was remanded to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office with a cash-only bond set at $500,000.
