MESA, Ariz. — Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting involving a Mesa police officer. The incident occurred early Sunday morning around 2 a.m. near Broadway and Signal Butte roads.

The incident began when an officer attempted to stop a man riding a bicycle. The suspect reportedly fled, leading police on a chase along the canal before being located in a nearby wash.

According to police reports, the individual produced a weapon and directed it toward the officer. In response, the officer discharged their firearm, striking the man.

Emergency responders transported the man to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His identity has not yet been disclosed to the public.

The Chandler Police Department is now in charge of the investigation. Investigators have stated they are not searching for any additional suspects related to this incident.
