A recent drone photo captured the ongoing construction of Southbridge Marketplace, revealing potential new retailers that may soon grace the area. Thompson Thrift, the developer behind the project, has hinted at a lineup that includes popular dining options such as Panera Bread and Five Guys, according to their leasing plan.

Community engagement surged recently as Glennwilde resident Kim Schock shared details of the development on social media, prompting excitement and curiosity among locals. “Cannabis and bread and bagels, I’m in trouble,” Schock humorously commented, reflecting a growing interest in the proposed establishments.

Other residents chimed in with optimism. Homestead’s Sherry Dove expressed enthusiasm for the potential mix of eateries and health-oriented businesses, stating, “Einstein, Panera, Pilates and dispensary. Yes, some happiness for me. A Del Taco would add more joy.” The proposed presence of both a Pilates studio and a cannabis dispensary marks a notable diversification in the retail landscape for the community.

The leasing plan shared by Schock revealed logos for several anticipated tenants, including Club Pilates and European Wax Center. While fast-casual dining appears to dominate the incoming options, the introduction of a pilates studio would be a first for Maricopa.

However, it is important to note that the proposed locations are still in preliminary stages. The terms “letter of intent” and “at lease” indicate that these sites are currently in negotiation for occupancy, but no final agreements have been confirmed.

In addition to the retail developments, construction has begun on a new Lowe’s Home Improvement store, covering 139,000 square feet, which promises to further enhance local shopping options. Other developments in the vicinity include a Trulieve dispensary and residential projects aimed at workforce and senior housing, expanding the community’s facilities.

Moreover, Aldi submitted plans to establish a grocery store in the shopping center earlier this year. However, the city’s review process for these plans is still pending.
