This month at city senior centers

This month, senior residents in Phoenix can enjoy a range of activities at the city’s 15 senior centers. Notably, the Sunnyslope and Devonshire centers in North Central Phoenix offer various events tailored for older adults.

The Sunnyslope Senior Center, located at 802 E. Vogel Ave., has scheduled two special outings in December. On December 4, members will visit the Herberger Theater Center, followed by a trip to the Black Theatre Troupe on December 12. Additional gatherings include a PHXART docent talk on December 5, a festive holiday party on December 18, and a family-friendly show and tell with hot chocolate and movies on December 26. Those interested can reach out to the center at 602-262-7572.

Meanwhile, at the Devonshire Senior Center, found at 2802 E. Devonshire Ave., participants will explore the Tempe Festival of the Arts on December 6. Other activities feature a fishing outing with lunch at Desert West Park on December 12, a culinary trip to Little Miss BBQ on December 17, and a festive New Year’s Eve apple cider toast on December 31. For details, contact the center at 602-262-7807.

Starting January 2025, the Human Services Department will expand its Memory Café program to all 15 senior centers. These cafés offer support for individuals experiencing memory loss and their caregivers, fostering an environment of learning and social interaction. The program emphasizes connection, understanding, and exploring new experiences together.

For more information, interested parties can call 602-534-5750 or visit the city of Phoenix’s Human Services website. An annual fee of $20 grants access to all senior centers.
