This month at city senior centers

The city of Phoenix is bustling with activities this month at its various senior centers, catering to different interests and celebrations. From engaging workshops to festive outings, there’s something for everyone.

At the Devonshire Senior Center, located at 2802 E. Devonshire Ave., members are set for a busy schedule. A fishing and lunch trip to Chaparral Park is scheduled for February 2, followed by a “Grease”-themed dance party on February 13. The festivities continue with a Valentine’s Day celebration at the Helen Drake Senior Center on February 14, and a lunch and shopping trip to The Plant Stand of Arizona on February 27.

These special events complement ongoing activities, which include computer lab sessions, chair yoga, documentary screenings, art classes, nutrition education, brain games, mahjong, and a Memory Café event on the first Monday of each month. For inquiries, the Devonshire Senior Center can be reached at 602-262-7807.

Meanwhile, the Sunnyslope Senior Center, located at 802 E. Vogel Ave., has planned a series of enriching activities as well. Members can look forward to an experience at the Herberger Theater on February 5, followed by a Black history presentation on February 10. Another “Grease” dance party is set for February 13, and a picnic excursion to Cesar Chavez Park will wrap up the month on February 26, alongside a Memory Café on February 5.

Regular programming here includes activities such as laptop labs, Geri-fit classes, chair yoga, writing workshops, ukulele lessons, and various card and board games. Those interested in the Sunnyslope Senior Center can call 602-262-7572 for more information.

All Phoenix senior centers operate from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Membership is open to residents and offers access to all 15 Arizona centers, costing $20 annually for Phoenix residents and $40 for non-residents. For general inquiries, the city can be contacted at 602-262-4520 or through their official website.
