New vice mayor to be named tomorrow

Maricopa’s Vice Mayor, Amber Liermann, is set to nominate her successor during the upcoming City Council meeting on September 18, 2024. Liermann described her tenure as an “honor” filled with trust and significant responsibilities.

“The role reflects a trust from the mayor and council, and it has been a valuable experience for me,” Liermann stated in an interview. She was appointed last year by former Vice Mayor Rich Vitiello, who praised her dedication to both the city and its schools.

According to Councilmember Vincent Manfredi, who served as vice mayor from 2021 to 2022, the position demands considerable commitment. “It’s more than just being a council member. When the mayor is unavailable, you step into that role,” he explained. The vice mayor often represents the mayor at various events, delivering speeches and participating in community activities.

Liermann also affirmed the demanding nature of the vice mayor’s role, calling it “quite a time commitment.” City code dictates that the vice mayor must perform mayoral duties in the absence of the mayor, which includes attending local and state meetings.

While Liermann has kept details about her nominee under wraps until the meeting, she emphasized the importance of finding someone with a genuine passion for community service. “This person should be devoted to their community members and display a heartfelt commitment,” she remarked, expressing confidence that her successor would positively impact both the community and the council.
