Former Scottsdale football coach sentenced to prison

Nicholas Murphy, a former volunteer football coach at Desert Mountain High School in Scottsdale, has been sentenced to 57 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to a serious crime involving a minor.

Murphy, who lured a teenager from Omaha to Tucson for sexual acts, faced indictment in 2023. Following the allegations, the Scottsdale Unified School District terminated his volunteer position with the freshman football team.

Before his legal troubles, Murphy played football at Arizona State University and had a short professional career in the NFL. Upon release, he will be under supervised probation for 10 years and is required to pay over $20,000 in fines.
