In a heartfelt appeal to the community, retired Pima Butte Elementary School teacher Betty Graham expressed her strong support for Proposition 488, a proposed local school bond in the Maricopa Unified School District. Graham, who has firsthand experience in education, emphasized the crucial role schools play in shaping future generations.

Proposition 488 aims to generate funding necessary to construct two new schools catering to students from kindergarten through eighth grade. Additionally, the bond will fund expansions at existing high schools to incorporate classrooms focused on workforce development—a vital aspect given the district’s rapid growth.

The construction of these new facilities is set to begin, with the first school expected to open in July 2026 in the Sorrento community. The second school’s location will depend on community growth patterns, ensuring that educational facilities keep pace with the needs of residents.

Graham underscored the importance of workforce development classrooms at high schools, which will enhance Career and Technical Education course offerings. This initiative is designed to create more engaging and practical learning environments for students, paving the way for future career prospects.

“Investing in our schools is an investment in our children’s future,” Graham stated. She urged residents of the Maricopa Unified School District to vote “yes” on Prop 488 to demonstrate their commitment to education and to ensure the community’s children have access to the best opportunities available.

This call to action reflects a collective vision for a more robust educational landscape in Maricopa, highlighting the community’s dedication to nurturing the next generation.
