Elks Lodge volunteers clean up two-mile stretch of State Route 95

In a show of community spirit, volunteers adorned in neon safety vests gathered on Thursday morning in south Lake Havasu City to remove litter from State Route 95. This initiative, organized by the local Elks Lodge, focused on a two-mile section of the highway that the group has adopted through the Arizona Department of Transportation’s (ADOT) ‘Adopt a Highway’ program.

The program aims to engage community members and businesses in keeping Arizona’s highways clean. Dan Dieter, the Elks Lodge highway cleanup commissioner, specified their adopted stretch runs from milepost 178 to 180, covering the area from Oro Grande Boulevard to Havasu Riviera Parkway. The Elks Lodge conducts several cleanups each year, particularly during the cooler months.

Dieter emphasized the importance of these efforts in fostering community pride, stating that local service organizations contribute significantly to the unique character of Lake Havasu City. “People feel good about what we do; they drive by and wave and honk at us,” he remarked.

Among the dedicated volunteers were Joe and Louise Romero, who have resided in the area since 1999. While the couple are members of the Moose Lodge, Joe expressed their willingness to support the Elks Lodge in its efforts. Complementing their efforts was Darryl Lancaster, another member of the Elks Lodge, who actively contributed to filling numerous bags with trash.

The next cleanup is scheduled for November 14, and participants from the wider community are encouraged to join, regardless of their affiliation with the Elks Lodge. Interested individuals can find additional information through the Elks Lodge’s channels.
