Elderly Woman on Scooter Struck in Crosswalk, Faces ‘Serious Injuries’

An early morning collision in Maricopa has left a 66-year-old woman hospitalized with serious injuries. The incident occurred shortly before 7 a.m. at The Wells plaza, where Maricopa Police Department responded swiftly.

According to police reports, a car exiting the shopping center made a left turn onto Porter Road from Applegate Road. In the crosswalk, the vehicle struck the elderly woman who was riding a mobility scooter.

The injured woman was transported to a Valley hospital, where she is currently in stable condition with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Monica Williams, a spokesperson for the MPD, confirmed that the driver, whose identity has not yet been released, was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in the crosswalk. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is ongoing.
