Eisenbeiss Sentenced to 13½ Years for Shocking Assault and Burglary
On December 9, Yavapai County Superior Court Judge Michael R. Bluff sentenced John Andrew Walton Eisenbeiss, 42, from Flagstaff, to 13½ years in Arizona State Prison. This decision came after a jury found him guilty on October 25 of multiple serious charges, including first-degree burglary and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The criminal actions took place on June 17, 2022, after Eisenbeiss and his girlfriend ended their relationship. Following the breakup, he reportedly visited a Sedona bar and began sending his ex-partner threatening and lewd messages, even including a covert photograph taken while she was asleep.
Evidence presented during the trial indicated that Eisenbeiss misused her credit card to settle his bar tab. He then drove to her residence, where he violently kicked down an entry gate while shouting. Around 9:45 p.m., a confrontation erupted between Eisenbeiss and a male friend at the girlfriend’s home. During the altercation, he caused damage to a wooden gate, pulled a gun on his friend, and threatened to kill him. He fled before police arrived on the scene.
Law enforcement later located Eisenbeiss’s vehicle at approximately 10:44 p.m. A high-risk traffic stop ensued, resulting in his arrest without incident. He was subsequently booked into the Yavapai County Detention Center on charges of aggravated assault, weapons misconduct, and threats related to domestic violence.
Yavapai County Attorney Dennis McGrane praised the Sedona Police Department for their thorough investigation, recognizing the effort put forth by Deputy Yavapai County Attorney Patti Wortman, who effectively presented the case during trial. McGrane also emphasized the importance of seeking help in domestic violence situations, encouraging individuals to contact local authorities or the National Domestic Violence Helpline at 1 (800) 799-7233.
“If you are filled with anger over a situation, it is crucial to take a moment to breathe and walk away,” McGrane advised. He made it clear that those who commit acts of violence in Yavapai County will face prosecution. He reflected on Eisenbeiss’s situation, stating that had he chosen to walk away that night, he would not be facing a lengthy prison sentence.
