EDITOR’s LETTER: New year, same me?

The annual tradition of ringing in the new year took a unique twist in Tucson, where a giant taco dropped to mark the start of 2025. As we transition into this new year, reflections on the past abound as redundancies in lifestyle changes resurface across media platforms.

In compiling the “2024 in Review,” our editorial team sifted through nearly 2,000 stories, capturing vital events from crashes to community issues that resonate with our audience. The reader survey highlighted the community’s appreciation for our comprehensive coverage, particularly during significant crises and local happenings.

Looking ahead, we pledge to maintain our commitment to delivering timely and significant news to our 1.4 million online readers and the 90,000 subscribers receiving our magazine. Our objective remains clear: to report diligently on elections, emergencies, and emerging stories that demand attention.

This month’s edition offers a rich selection of content, including poignant narratives from our editorial team. Jeff Chew, in his final contribution before retiring, reflects on his extensive career, focusing on the unique role of a Maricopa high school mascot. Meanwhile, Monica D. Spencer, together with junior reporter Kaylin Hansen, explores the critical issue of teen suicide, addressing grave questions to local families and adolescents affected by this heartbreaking reality.

My experiences in 2024, my first full year at InMaricopa, have been enlightening. I aim to enhance our storytelling further in 2025, drawing on your feedback. Look out for a sequel to last month’s popular article on Maricopa’s unsolved stabbing case, which will include exclusive interviews with witnesses involved.

As we embrace the new year, our dedication to serving you with reliable news remains unwavering. Here’s to uncovering more stories together!
