DUI Investigation Launched Following Amtrak Motorcycle Collision

On December 22, 2024, a motorcyclist was hospitalized following a crash near the Amtrak Station in Maricopa. Authorities from the Maricopa Police Department suspect that drugs or alcohol may have played a role in the incident.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the accident scene at approximately 5:35 p.m., where they found a 33-year-old man had lost control of his motorcycle at the intersection of Maricopa Road and Mercado Street. This location is just a stone’s throw from the Amtrak Station at 44605 W. Mercado Street.
Paramedics from the Maricopa Fire and Medical Department worked swiftly to assist the injured motorcyclist, who was reportedly in visible distress while being transferred onto a stretcher.
MPD Captain Stephen Judd confirmed that the biker suffered multiple injuries, necessitating transport to a trauma center. He added that further updates on the victim’s condition were not available at the moment.
Investigators examined the crash site, noting disturbances along the curb where the motorcycle appeared to have veered off the road. Capt. Judd indicated that the rider is currently under investigation for potential driving under the influence.
