DSHS Underage Drinking Investigation Could Lead to Charges

Maricopa police are investigating reports of underage drinking involving students at Desert Sunrise High School. The inquiry follows an incident on the morning of November 4, initiated by the school’s resource officer, who discovered that a minor had consumed alcohol brought to campus by another student.
Police spokesperson Monica Williams confirmed that charges are currently under review for a minor in possession of alcohol. At least one student has been suspended as a result of the incident.
On the evening of the same day, the Maricopa Unified School District Governing Board convened an executive session to discuss the possible expulsion of a student. However, district spokesperson Mishell Terry declined to comment on any connection between this meeting and the alcohol-related incident.
Parents of the students involved were interviewed by InMaricopa, but specific details regarding the case will remain confidential to protect the identities of the minors.
