A 30-year-old woman was arrested for driving under the influence after a serious crash in Maricopa. Jessica J. Guevara Reyes was allegedly operating her vehicle at nearly four times the legal limit when she lost control, ultimately smashing into a power pole and a residential fence on Hathaway Avenue on December 13.

Reports indicate that Reyes had her young child in the vehicle during the incident. She faces multiple charges: aggravated DUI, child endangerment, criminal damage, resisting arrest, and refusal to provide her identification. The total potential consequences include two years in prison and fines up to $11,000.

The damage caused to the power pole is estimated at around $5,000. Police responded to the scene at approximately 6:37 p.m. and found Reyes behind the wheel of a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Upon questioning, Reyes reportedly acknowledged that she had consumed alcohol and admitted, “I’m not right.” Observations noted by the officers revealed slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and an overwhelming odor of alcohol. Further, her movements were described as slow and lethargic.

As officers attempted to place her under arrest, Reyes displayed aggressive behavior, resisting by tensing her muscles and pulling away. She reportedly struggled during the arrest, thrashing against the patrol vehicle and the officers.

Following her arrest, she was taken to Exceptional Community Hospital, where a blood draw revealed a staggering blood-alcohol level of .30—a level significantly above Arizona’s legal limit of .08. Evidence from the incident shows that even while in custody, Reyes continued to threaten officers and act disorderly.
