Driver in Hit-and-Run Turns Himself In to Authorities
The driver involved in a hit-and-run incident that occurred on Sunday has turned themselves in to the Maricopa Police Department. This voluntary surrender follows a crash that resulted in one individual being hospitalized.
Monica Williams, spokesperson for the department, confirmed this development at 11:30 a.m. on Monday. “A driver has now come forward and is taking responsibility for the crash,” she said, emphasizing that officers are thoroughly investigating the incident.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene of the hit-and-run on John Wayne Parkway near West Smith-Enke Road around 5:45 p.m. A white Chevrolet truck was found stopped in a northbound lane, showing visible front-end damage and surrounded by debris.
The driver, initially believed to be at fault, was absent from the scene. Williams indicated that the offending vehicle had crossed the median before fleeing, noting that police had leads regarding the driver’s identification and were actively seeking the car.
The male driver of the Chevrolet truck was taken to the hospital for treatment, and the scene was cleared by 6:10 p.m.
Later that night, around 10:45 p.m., the police reached out to the community for assistance in locating a dark blue, two-door Dodge Challenger that had also fled the scene. Officials mentioned that damage to the vehicle obscured the license plate from view.
Images released by the police depicted the Challenger with significant rear-end damage, visibly dragging its bumper as it left the area. As of now, information regarding the age, sex, and potential charges against the suspect driver remains undisclosed.
